250 new jobs created by Japanese firms

01/07/2009

A Japanese international pharmaceutical company has announced plans to create a new business center in the east of England, which in turn will create up to 250 new jobs in the region.

Pharmaceutical research company Eisai has pledged to create a European Knowledge Centre in Hatfield at the 14-acre business park in the town, Business Weekly reported.

The £100 million investment will help to create employment opportunities for those in the science field with the centre focusing predominantly on research in marketing, medical, finance and IT.

Deborah Cadman, chief executive for the East of England Development Agency, said: "It is good news for the local economy and for people in Hatfield that Eisai is creating high-skilled jobs in a sector the region is traditionally strong in."

Elsewhere, the creation of a new business center in Caerphilly, Wales, has been tipped to attract new businesses to the area, with the site offering 23 separate workspaces of varying sizes and 25 workshops.
