BBC HR scheme 'experiencing problems'

The BBC's plans to restructure its human resources (HR) department in a bid to save money and increase efficiency is not going to plan, it has been reported.

Aiming to save around £50 million by reorganising aspects such as pay, staff development and recruitment, the BBC awarded outsourcing supplier Capita the £100 million contact in 2006.

However, the agreement has been hit by setbacks, including union complaints and rumours of poor service, according to Personnel Today.

Stephen Kelly, the people director of the BBC said that all outsourcing contracts face difficulties and described them simply as "teething problems".

"Both the BBC and Capita are absolutely committed to addressing these and we have a big programme in place to change and simplify our processes, taking out duplication and overlap" he said.

In May last year, the BBC appointed a new HR shared services director who now works with Capita to administer and develop the company's HR affairs.
