Bosses urged to consider most valuable staff as recession bites

Employers need to make sure they are doing enough to retain their most valuable workers during the recession, it has been claimed.

A recent survey by KPMG found that 83 per cent of employers think that human capital is the most important way to remain ahead of competition, HR Zone reports.

Steve Foster, HR strategist at talent management software company, Northgate Arinso, believes that bosses need to ensure they are keeping the right people in their company if redundancies have to be made.

He asked: "Are you really concerned about your senior managers leaving or actually is it those people doing the solid jobs and have the specialist skills right across the organisation?"

Last week, the Irish Times reported on the opinion of Anne Heraty, creator of CPL Resources, who said that the experience, attitude and abilities of staff are increasingly being valued over skills by employers.
