City workers 'may become science teachers'

02/12/2008

There may be an increase in the number of science teachers entering the classroom in the future as many city workers are now considering teaching as a career move, it has been claimed.

According to the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA), the profession is increasingly being seen as a safe profession for those who are concerned about the risk of redundancy in the City.

John Connolly, head of the TDA, said that "people who have made their money in the City [of London] in the last few years now want a career change and want to give something back".

The TDA is investing in conversion courses which give people the chance to train for six months so that those with degrees in other subjects can become qualified science teachers.

As another part of its recruitment drive, the TDA is promoting the career through the use of YouTube videos.
