CVs 'should be targeted'

02/10/2009

Individuals looking to find work after university should take the time to tailor their CV to the specific role they are after, it has been claimed.

Margaret Holbrough, careers advisor at London South Bank University, said graduates need to be aware of the competitive market they are entering when looking for employment and therefore they should do all they can to make themselves the best possible candidate for a position.

"The CV should reflect the requirements of the organisation as described in the advert or company website and provide evidence from actual events/experiences that they have what the company is looking for," she commented.

Meanwhile, Piers Linney, joint chief executive officer of Outsourcery, recently said young people could use the recession as an excuse to go into business for themselves.

He noted that the entrepreneurial spirit could prompt many young Brits to take matters into their own hands when looking for employment and become their own boss.
