CWDC: Professional childcare sector needs male teachers
More men are being urged by one organisation to consider jobs in childcare.
According to the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), men are under-represented in the early years workforce and there needs to be action taken against this.
The organisation says that although teaching young children is traditionally seen as a woman's role, a social shift now means men are taking a more active part in the upbringing of their children.
Therefore this should be reflected in the professional childcare sector.
Thom Crabbe, national development manager for early years at the CWDC, said that "men are vastly under-represented in the early years workforce and we want confident and capable men to take their place in this workforce".
Research by the Training and Development Agency for schools found that 35 per cent of men felt that having a male primary school teacher as a child challenged them to work harder in lessons.
