Education jobs created at Norfolk prison

26/05/2009

Education professionals in East Anglia may be interested to learn of a number of employment opportunities in the region.

A total of 40 jobs are to be set up at a new prison opening at the former RAF Coltishall site in Norfolk, the Norwich Evening News reports.

Education provider A4e is recruiting 20 people for its teaching department and will double that number once the facility is fully operational.

While the bulk of the jobs are for teachers and assistants, there are also vacancies for a deputy education manager and administrative staff.

"Teaching is a rewarding job anyway but working with offenders is extremely rewarding as you very often find that you are able to help change someone's life and improve their life," said Sheirra Matthewson-Davies, education manager at the jail.

RAF Coltishall was closed as a defence site in November 2006, according to English Heritage. Construction work on the facility had begun in 1939, just months before the beginning of World War Two.
