Employee screening 'may become more popular' thanks to technology

08/10/2008

Employee screening may be in the increase in the UK as new technology makes it easier for companies to run background checks on their workers, one firm has suggested.

Datanomic, a data quality and screening company, claims that large volumes of data, for example names, dates of birth, nationalities and locations, can all be quickly scanned and checked against government databases.

Simon Pearson, director of client screening for Datanomic, said that "sophisticated and very powerful data preparation" along with "extremely deep software algorithms" are making employee checks easier for firms.

Datanomic therefore expects this kind of employee screening to become more commonplace over the next three years, especially for large organisations.

It also claims that failure to carry out proper check on staff, either to protect the company or for regulatory requirements, exposes organisations to an "unacceptable risk".
