Employers 'still want top graduates'
Businesses are still looking to take on the best graduates despite the effects of the economic downturn, it has been argued.
Aidan Hetherington, careers and corporate relations officer at the University of Edinburgh's business school, said that major businesses in Scotland are still offering places on their graduate schemes, despite fears that many positions would be taken away due to budgetary constraints.
Mr Hetherington commented: "Rather than being inundated with applications - as one would expect - HR departments are reporting back to university careers services that they are disappointed by a fall in the number of students applying for their graduate schemes."
He added that despite media reports to the contrary, the outlook for UK graduates is not bleak.
Meanwhile, the University of Ulster Business School recently released a similar statement saying that graduates in Northern Ireland are still in demand, with businesses always on the lookout to recruit top talent.
