Employment 'increases in the public sector'
Government recruitment drives are helping job seekers to find employment within the public sector, it has been claimed.
In the second quarter of 2008 there was a rise in employment within the public sector, despite the current two per cent cap imposed on pay rises by the government, Unison suggests.
The classroom is one area experiencing growth as more people become teaching assistants. The number of community police officers is also on the increase.
"You have areas where the government are recruiting where you're getting a whole new raft of people coming into the public sector," a spokeswoman for Unison said.
She continued by saying this showed "growth areas within the public sector."
According to the Public Sector Employment Q2 report, published by the Office for National Statistics, employment in the central government increased by 8,000 while public sector employment increased by 31,000 in the second quarter of 2008.
