Extra IT training needed for teachers, expert claims
Teachers need to feel confident using computers so they are happy teaching IT skills to their pupils, it has been claimed.
According to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), training is needed to ensure they are using technology to teach the curriculum.
Many may also feel intimidated by the level of skills already possessed by some children and therefore do not feel confident teaching them.
Elspeth Farrar, communications director for AGCAS, said: "It's something the government requires schools to do to ensure that whatever subject you are delivering in a school that there is some element of use of technology as part of it."
Key facts on ICT from Teachernet have revealed that primary schools have an average of 37 computers each.
This equates to one machine for every 6.2 children, with 99 per cent of them being connected to the internet.
