Facebook users 'unconcerned' about employer checks

09/05/2008

Many employees with social networking profiles on sites such as Facebook are unconcerned about their employer checks on the information they have listed, a new study has revealed.

According to Zinc Research and Dufferin Research, nearly half of employees would not mind if their boss checked their social networking profile.

And two out of five respondents said they would consider showing their profile alongside their CV if applying for a job, the survey found.

However, Brian Singh, the managing director of Zinc Research stated that many companies are struggling to engage with the technology, but would be likely to benefit if they could incorporate it into their business.

"Companies that grasp this reality and develop a Facebook-related attraction and retention strategy will better connect to their workforce and get the upper hand in business," he said.

Many employers have banned their employees from using sites like Facebook during office hours.
