Female entrepreneurs 'getting a better deal'
The economic downturn has prompted a change in attitudes in many financial institutions towards female entrepreneurs, it has been claimed.
Tatjana Hine, president of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs, said many lenders are being more attracted to female-run businesses due to the fact they are often more risk-averse.
She commented: "I do feel that after this crisis now, banks are actually looking at women's businesses differently, because they find that we tend not to be as large and not to have as much debt."
Furthermore, the government has announced plans to install new representatives across the UK to champion the causes of female and minority entrepreneurs.
According to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the government plans to set up a Women's Enterprise Champion in each of the regions to advise ministers and to encourage more women to start their own enterprises.
In addition, there will be a commitment between major high street banks to continue to improve the routes to business finance for women and ethnic-minority entrepreneurs.
