Flexible working 'helps reduce the daily commute'
The introduction of new technologies and flexible working practices could help boost productivity for workers and cut the amount of time they spend commuting to and from the office, it has been claimed.
Rob Lovell, chief executive officer of cloud IT services provider ThinkGrid, said cloud computing is one such method which allows Britons to use the same applications and data they would find in the office at an alternate location.
He commented: "With technology such as cloud computing being increasingly adopted by businesses, people are able to work from almost anywhere, essentially removing the barriers of the traditional office by allowing sharing and collaboration of data and applications."
According to the Trades Union Congress, UK workers spend on average 52.6 minutes commuting every day.
In addition, the organisation noted that across the country £266 million worth of working time is spent travelling to and from work every day.
