Gap years 'can improve a CV'

18/08/2009

Britons who are presently struggling to find work might be interested to hear that taking a gap year could make them more employable.

Tom Griffiths, founder of gapyear.com, said that people can make their CVs stand out from the crowd by travelling and taking advantage of the situation they presently find themselves in to jet off to foreign climes and improve their worldly knowledge and experience.

He commented: "It is very easy for us to get stuck in our safety zone following the hamster wheel of life; we go from one job to another to get some money. Now this is an opportunity to see the world for what it really is."

According to figures from responsibletravel.com, 'career breaks' are currently popular for those looking to escape the recession, making up a fifth of all gap year trip enquiries on the website in the past three months.

Furthermore, the most popular type of trip for gay year travellers continues to be volunteer holidays, with enquiries for such projects up by a quarter.
