Get Safe Online issues advice for online jobseekers

18/12/2008

Online recruitment agencies could provide security to those looking for employment on the internet as there are increasing numbers of criminals preying on vulnerable jobseekers, it has been claimed.

According to Get Safe Online, it is all too easy for fraudsters to use the information on a CV to steal a person's identity and obtain money.

They can set up fake websites advertising vacancies or offer people money as part of a job which they then ask to be sent back to them as part of a money laundering scheme.

"As soon as you provide it, they have access to all your personal identification," said Tony Neat, managing director of Get Safe Online.

"It's about reading the advert and reading it closely. Does it make sense? Is it what you'd normally expect it to be?" he added.

By using an online recruitment website, jobseekers may be able to avoid this problem as they will have better knowledge about where their CV is being posted.
