Graduate employment scheme 'sees rise in disabled applicants'

02/06/2010

There has been a rise in the number of people with disabilities applying to a graduate employment scheme run by the Civil Service, it is reported.

According to Personnel Today, an increase in the number of ethnic minorities applying for the Fast Stream training and development programme has also been noted.

The Cabinet Office's 2009 Fast Stream Annual report revealed that 10.7 per cent of the successful applicants in 2009 were from ethnic minority groups - an increase from the 9.3 per cent recorded in 2008.

Meanwhile, the proportion of successful applicants who were disabled rose from 12.6 per cent to 14.6 per cent during the same period.

The coalition government recently announced that it would be imposing a freeze on Civil Service recruitment immediately, although the course will not be affected.

Elsewhere, the British Chambers of Commerce recently claimed that jobs need to be created to stimulate business growth.
