Graduates 'unprepared for job market'
Young people across the UK have entered higher education because of their inability to find work when leaving school, it has been claimed.
Peter Panayotou, senior consultant at the Write Stuff, said universities should improve their career services to offer the best advice to students, rather than simply telling them that additional qualifications could put them on the right path to their perfect career.
He commented: "I don't necessarily think that further study in higher education instead of looking for a job, is a sensible option, sometimes it can be more of a diversion. It doesn't necessarily add anything or make you more employable."
According to a joint report by the National Union of Students and HSBC, 66 per cent of final year students are concerned about the current economic climate.
In addition, 38 per cent of final year students planned to do further studying after their graduation - up from 27 per cent last year.
