Graduates 'can use blogs and videos to get jobs'

8/11/2010

If it suitable for the role, graduates can show of their abilities through links to videos, blogs and previous work on their CV when looking for jobs, so long as the document still serves its purpose, an expert has said.

Business manager at Graduate Prospects Chris Rea advised that an application should be targeted to the position an individual is putting themselves in for and people may benefit from thorough preparation and research.

From reading the person specification and description of the role, as well as contacting the human resources department of a company to discuss the job, graduates should try to grasp what kind of worker is being sought.

By doing this, the university leaver can then gear their bid for the work to suit the firm's needs.

"Without departing absolutely from its purpose, a CV can accommodate a certain amount of innovation and excitement," Mr Rea said.

Multimedia examples of skills and experience can be used to apply for jobs, he explained, such as blogs and videos.

This comes after news that could see the labour market more difficult for graduates to enter, as Unison said careers services for young people are facing cuts of up to 50 per cent.ADNFCR-1581-ID-800021877-ADNFCR
