How to boost CVs following downturn

22/03/2010

Following the end of recession in the UK, now might be a good time for anyone whose career aspirations have been sidetracked to get themselves back on the road to where they want to be, it has been claimed.

As a result, Peter Panayotou, senior analyst at the Write Stuff, said people should look to minimise the impact of having unrelated jobs on their CV and such periods of employment need not damage a person's overall career goals.

"I actually create two sections for the employment and that way you can give priority to what is relevant and minimise what's not. The last relevant job which may be the previous one may be the one that shows first," he commented.

According to the latest employment survey from Badenoch & Clark, almost a quarter (24 per cent) of professionals claimed they had taken on a job they were over-qualified for during the recession because of a lack of other opportunities.

Indeed, the report noted professionals in the legal and banking sectors were the most likely to have moved into a job outside their core area of expertise.
