IT sector 'witnesses growing demand for workers'
There has been an upturn in demand for workers in the information and communication technologies sector, it has been revealed.
Jamie Bowler, head of marketing at the IT Job Board, said the number of positions being advertised for staff in this field has grown significantly in the last few months, with a recent survey by the organisation showing more than half (58 per cent) of respondents feel the market will continue to improve throughout 2010.
He commented: "Today, IT is at the core function of all business and as a result, we are seeing increased demand from consultancies."
According to the latest quarterly statistics from the IT Job Board, IT manager and support role positions represented the highest proportion of vacancies on the site in the last three months of 2009.
Furthermore, software engineering roles almost doubled between November and December, while the number of contract positions rose over the quarter, although permanent positions continued to make up the majority of vacancies.
