Job growth increases for 5th month

06/01/2010

UK job market activity has continued to rise for the fifth consecutive month, new figures have shown.

Data compiled by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG revealed December saw the number of staff appointments made in Britain increase for the fifth month on a row, with December's result equalling the fastest growth rate seen since 2007.

"As we head into 2010, the recovery of the UK jobs market is accelerating. Employer confidence is increasing and vacancies are on the up," said Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC.

He added the sharp increase in temporary and contract placements underlines the role that flexible working models will play in helping jobseekers back into work.

Elsewhere, Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, recently noted the private sector needs to offer more incentives to young people in order to make its jobs more attractive over the long term.
