Job-seekers encouraged to do work experience

26/09/2008

Advice has been given to job-seekers about how they can help themselves to get back on to the career ladder.

Adecco Retail says that volunteering or doing work placements can be a great way to impress potential employers by showing dedication to the job and eagerness to learn and succeed.

Doing work experience can also boost CVs or even lead to long-term employment if an employer is impressed by the work done.

Steven Kirkpatrick, managing director of Adecco Retail, said: "While volunteering is very worthy, you should also be clear to plan what you want to get out of it – set some specific goals that will help you boost your job prospects at the end of it."

According to figures from the Trades Union Congress, although the amount of people in employment is at an all-time high, there is also an increase in the number of people who have out of work for over 12 months.
