Job security 'increasingly important' for graduates

01/05/2009

Many graduate jobseekers are ignoring the vacancies with the highest salaries and are instead looking for positions which offer job security.

This is according to findings from High Fliers Research, which reveal that people are now ignoring the previously popular investment banking sector when looking for work.

They are now opting for industries such as teaching where they are confident of getting and retaining a job.

Martin Birchall, managing director ay High Fliers Research, said: "There is also wide spread concern that even if you do get a job offer, the employer will withdraw the job offer before they start working for them."

Some people are also worried that that even if they do get a job, they could quickly be made redundant.

In related news, figures from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills show that the government has invested £26.5 million into skills and training to help people in the UK back into work.
