Jobs for young people in North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire County Council has secured funding from the Department for Work and Pensions to help provide jobs for young people in the region, it has been announced.
The council hopes to invest money from the Future Jobs Fund to help create up to 190 new positions for young people who are presently unemployed and in receipt of jobseekers allowance in the area.
Positions within a range of industries are being created, included catering, hospitality, environmental campaigning, youth liaison and health, with the jobs expected to be set up for an initial six-month period.
The fund itself aims to create an additional 150,000 jobs - primarily for those aged between 18 and 24 years old - across the UK over the next two years.
Elsewhere in the UK, the Future Jobs Fund recently helped to create 130 new jobs in Gloucestershire.
Community support positions, as well as a number of private business opportunities, have been created through partnerships between local authorities and businesses.
