Jobseekers still lying on CVs, research shows
Businesses operating in many sectors are being encouraged to be extra vigilant with CVs they receive as increasing numbers of jobseekers are lying on their applications.
This is according to research from BackCheck, which shows that between September 2008 and March 2009, there was a 54 per cent increase in the number of banking and telecommunications candidates lying about references.
In the healthcare sector, a 50 per cent increase in the number of jobseekers providing false references was documented.
The worst offenders were found to be those applying for retail positions, as up to 100 per cent of candidates were found to be lying.
Assistant vice president of operations at BackCheck Chris Hawkins said: "In recession, more than ever, employers have their pick of candidates, they want impressive CVs and the sensible employers are checking that what is on the CV is true."
