Most graduates 'search online for jobs'

04/03/2008

The majority of university leavers use the internet to find their ideal job after graduation, new figures have suggested.

According to a survey by Reed, 89 per cent of graduates stated that they only ever use the web to look for vacancies, Online Recruitment magazine reports.

Just three per cent of degree holders said they regularly check roles advertised in the press.

However, the research also revealed that some graduates have a blasé attitude when it comes to interview preparation.

"Many graduates are not spending enough time preparing and researching for job interviews," noted Stephen Harrison, operations manager at the firm.

The poll discovered that 57 per cent of graduate jobseekers spend less than an hour researching jobs before an important interview.

"Companies expect interview candidates to have done their homework and any graduate looking for their first step on the career ladder should realise this," Mr Harrison warned.

In other news today, graduates have been told by Moneyfacts that the current economic situation is unlikely to alter financial packages they are offered by banks and financial services companies.
