Online recruitment for River Island

24/11/2008

River Island is the latest company to turn to online recruitment as a way of hiring its staff.

According to Onrec.com, the high street fashion retailer hopes that by using the internet it will reduce both recruitment costs and the amount of time spent by managers sorting through applications.

Previously, applications from jobseekers went through a central team before being forwarded to stores for short-listing.

However, time pressures meant a consistent approach to short-listing was not always possible.

It is thought that the new process will be fairer for jobseekers as well as making sure that the best quality people are employed.

Lisa Astbury, director of Changeworknow, said: "Online recruitment enables River Island to provide regular feedback to applicants instantly and at no extra cost."

She also added: "More and more information is online and employers will miss out on talent if they don't tap into online recruitment."

Woolworths previously announced that it will be using the internet to hire its Christmas and seasonal staff this year, Personnel Today reported.
