Optimism 'is abundant over UK jobs market'
There is a growing sense of optimism surrounding the UK jobs market at present, one sector commentator has noted.
Phil Flaxton, chief executive officer at Work Wise UK, said an economic recovery is likely to prove slow and fragile, but that does not mean people's attitudes have not been boosted considerably in recent months.
He commented: "There are a lot of things that [Britain is] very, very good at and certain specialist areas where we lead the world and I think therefore, there is a lot of reason to be optimistic about the recovery."
Mr Flaxton added prospects are set to gradually improve as the year progresses.
According to the Report on Jobs by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG, recruitment consultants reported a further rise in vacancy levels in December. Demand for permanent and temporary/contract staff increased at the strongest rates for 29 and 22 months respectively.
