Private sector 'to support jobs market'

30/04/2010

The UK private sector will help to support the jobs market in the months ahead, despite a predicted downturn in public sector positions.

A report published by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has shown that job cuts are widely expected in local government and other public sector jobs over the coming months. However, the exit of recession in the UK has meant the economy is beginning to get stronger and this bodes well for private sector employment.

"A return to spring could mean a growth of full-time jobs in the private sector that may continue if the global economy continues to recover at the same rate," commented Gerwyn Davies, CIPD's public policy adviser and author of the report.

Elsewhere, Michael Webb, client services manager at Green Consultancy, recently said that companies across the UK are focused on bettering their environmental awareness and are employing firms to meet these needs more effectively for them.

He noted that a report by Datamonitor has highlighted the need for greater transparency and less complexity in the UK's renewable energy market.
