Recession 'has placed a burden on recruiters'
The economic downturn has made it difficult for recruiters to fill positions because of the massive growth in applications they receive for roles, it has been claimed.
Virginia Raemy, chief executive officer of TalentPuzzle, said the fact so many CVs have been sent in for each position means it has been tough for recruiters to separate the wheat from the chaff, with more low-quality CVs being sent in as people get more desperate for work.
In addition, costs have mounted for businesses as agents have looked to safeguard their own profits during the recession.
She commented: "For example, McDonalds is hiring people. They get fees of between ten and 15 per cent, which is very low. However, a smaller company that wants to look for the same position they will probably have to pay between 20 and 30 per cent."
According to research carried out by TalentPuzzle, 86 per cent of the business owners and HR staff surveyed admitted that they would like to spend less time dealing with recruitment processes and agencies.
