Recruitment Society: CVs should stand out from the crowd

20/03/2009

Jobseekers have been advised to make the most of their skills and use them to make sure they stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs during the recession.

According to the Recruitment Society, people need to demonstrate to employers what they can bring to a position and a CV is the perfect place to showcase their skills.

Whether they have language skills "buried at the back" or a CV or niche sector experience, jobseekers can avoid "being just a generalist" if they show these talents.

Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, said: "What are you bringing to that job that is extra and above the other five people who could also all do it."

Figures from the Office for National Statistics have recently revealed that there were 482,000 job vacancies in the three months to February 2009, which is down from the previous quarter.
