Recruitment Society: "Older jobseekers may lie about degree results

26/02/2009

People who graduated from university more than ten or 20 years ago may be more likely to lie about their qualification on their CV, it has been claimed.

The Recruitment Society has stated that the number of people achieving firsts and 2:1s is continuing to increase.

Therefore, older jobseekers may be tempted to change their own grade to allow them to compete in a competitive jobs market.

Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, said: "There is an element of time in that particular aspect, where people might be tempted if they think it was so long ago, no one is ever going to check."

He adds that "this is not an ageist comment", but something many people are likely to be considering.

Results of a CV study conducted by the Charted Institute of Educational Assessors have revealed that 69.1 per cent of people claim never to have lied on their CV.
