Research reveals extent of jobseeker lies
As the economic downturn in the UK continues, many jobseekers are lying on their CVs to get ahead in the employment market, it has been claimed.
Research conducted by BackCheck has discovered that 30 per cent of candidates lie about their employment history, while 20 per cent do not tell the truth about references.
As a result, employers are being urged to be vigilant and conduct proper background checks on any potential new recruits, Growing Business reports.
The survey also showed that ten per cent of jobseekers have lied about their education and 15 per cent fib about their identity.
Chris Hawkins from BackCheck said this is worrying as employers could be putting their "clients, other staff and business at risk by employing someone who has lied about their educational, employment and criminal history".
Meanwhile, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation has warned jobseekers not to lie about health-related issues on their applications.
