Skills shortage 'could be good for job-seekers'
A skills shortage that is affecting Ireland, the UK and the rest of the world could lead to more opportunities for graduate job-seekers.
According to Manpower's annual talent shortage survey, one-third of employers are unable to fill their vacancies with qualified candidates.
Even though this figure has decreased by ten per cent during the past year, respondents said that it is still an issue that troubles them.
"The talent crunch is still a very real concern and employers need to continue their diligence in developing their employer brands and honing their talent strategies during 2008," commented Jeffrey A Joerres, chairman and chief executive of Manpower.
Among the top ten careers that are most difficult to fill are sales representatives, IT roles, and management posts.
Meanwhile, recent research from Hotonline Network found that employees are currently feeling positive about their job prospects and earning potential for 2008.
