SMEs positive about future jobs
Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the UK are looking to take on extra staff now the first signs of an economic recovery have been seen, it has been claimed.
A spokesperson of the Federation of Small Businesses said around 65 per cent of UK SMEs anticipate keeping their workforce at its present level, but it is good news that more businesses are now planning to recruit in the months ahead.
He commented: "Our research shows that over half of small businesses without employees are keen to employ in the future, but 34 per cent of members found Jobcentre Plus 'ineffective' or 'very ineffective'."
According to the Confederation of British Industry, demand for goods made by the UK's small and medium-sized manufacturers remained depressed in the last three months, but firms expect order books to stabilise in the next quarter.
Furthermore, the balance of firms feeling more optimistic about the general business situation (nine per cent) is the highest since April 2007.
