Social media 'could boost company standing'

23/04/2010

By allowing their employees to use social media in the workplace businesses could improve consumer awareness, one IT professional has stated.

Jason Falls, a social media consultant and blogger on socialmediaexplorer.com, said that websites like Facebook and Salesforce.com can be excellent tools for boosting brand recognition and allow businesses to interact with their customers in a way that was more difficult to achieve in the past.

He commented: "If they are sharing great content and building credibility in the social realm on behalf of your company, then you benefit greatly by having enhanced awareness."

According to the Small Business Success Index by Network Solutions and the Centre for Excellence in Service at the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business, 75 per cent of small businesses now have a page on a social media website.

Furthermore, 45 per cent of respondents felt their social media efforts will deliver revenue gains over the coming 12 months.
