Social media 'will play a role in recruitment'
Social media is likely to become a priority for businesses looking to improve their recruitment processes over the coming 12 months, it has been claimed.
Richard Doherty, group vice-president of solutions at Jobpartners, said social media will enable firms to better contact and engage with top talent and this will be beneficial for both employers and those looking for work following the economic downturn.
He commented: "Corporate recruiters will be following what many recruitment agencies are already doing and using social networks to provide company information and set up interest groups to source candidates."
According to CareerBuilder.com, 37 per cent of surveyed employers plan to put a greater emphasis on social media in 2010 to create a more positive brand for their organisation.
Furthermore, one in five employers plan to add social media responsibilities to a current employee's job description and one in 12 (eight per cent) plan to hire someone new to focus or partially focus on social media.
