Social networking 'new employment resource' for graduates
Young people will feel comfortable engaging with employers online in the future, the publishing director at Graduate Prospects has said.
Jane Rowley described this crop of graduates as the "Facebook generation" and suggested that as many people are now using online social networking sites to interact with their friends, it is a logical extension into the professional world.
In addition to this new resource, she argued that universities are more focused on employability than they used to be and offer "high professional" careers services. As a result, graduates have "no excuse" for sending out poor CVs and covering letters, she claimed.
"The more resources a graduate can identify, the more choice they are giving themselves
networking is also a very useful source of leads for jobs," Ms Rowley stated.
With 2,362,815 people enrolled in higher education in 2006/07, there is currently fierce competition for graduate places.
