TDA: Teaching is better paid than jobseekers think
Teaching is becoming a more attractive option for jobseekers because it is better paid than many people think, it has been claimed.
In the opinion of the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA), this coupled with the 13 weeks of holiday teachers receive is attracting more people to the sector.
As a result, applications for teacher training courses have increased by more than ten per cent.
A spokesperson for the TDA said: "Also there are different benefits; people can apply for key worker housing, it is quite a stable career, pay and benefits, there is a chance to progress in your career quite quickly."
Other benefits include good pensions schemes and the opportunity to travel around to different schools.
Further statistics from the TDA have revealed that more people are considering teaching courses in maths and science which are traditionally more difficult to recruit.
