The Write Stuff: Remember the 30 second CV rule

13/03/2009

Jobseekers have been reminded that CVs should be interesting and must get an employer's attention straight away.

Discussing the subject at the National Graduate Recruitment Exhibition in London, Peter Panayotou, senior consultant for The Write Stuff, urged those looking for work to remember the '30 second test'.

This refers to the period of time in which a potential employer looks at a CV and decided whether or not they are going to read the complete document.

Mr Panayotou said: "It is also, coincidently, the simplest one to commit and it will guarantee that your CV fails."

He continued by advising jobseekers to ensure that all spelling and punctuation is correct and to break up the text using bullet points so that it is easier to read.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's Labour Market Outlook quarterly survey revealed that 27 per cent of employers are expecting to take on new workers.
