Working longer 'keeps people happy and healthy'
Brits have been found to stay happier and healthier for longer if they keep active after their retirement.
Emma Soames, editor at large for Saga Magazine, said people continue to have a higher quality of life after retirement if they do not leave the world of work completely.
She commented: "People don't realise how much the working environment contributes to their social life and their human relationships until they stop doing it."
Ms Soames added work can be beneficial for al kinds of things, including reducing money worries and reducing the chance of person becoming isolated from society.
According to the Academy of Medical Sciences entitled Rejuvenating ageing research, rising life expectancy combined with low birth rates means the populations of the UK and the world are ageing. However, provisional evidence indicates healthy life expectancy is increasing at least as quickly as life expectancy.
