Yorkshire Dales could see 1,500 jobs created

16/08/2010

It has been claimed that the establishment of a holiday village in the Yorkshire Dales could make 1,500 new jobs available.

Two-thirds of the roles would be in construction of the site, which has been proposed by developer Halton Homes, according to the Yorkshire Post,

Meanwhile, the remaining 500 positions would become available once the project had been built, the newspaper reported.

At a cost of £80 million, the development would include a swimming pool, two golf courses and tennis courts, as well as eateries, bars and hotel and cottage accommodation, the publication said.

Linda Spencer of Bingley-based Halton Homes told the information source: "We will have an active policy to encourage the local community and we will have a preference for local labour."

The company has not yet submitted a planning application for the development but if the project should go ahead, the firm would aim to spend at least a quarter of the construction work to contractors from the surrounding area, she added.

Halton Homes has previously built projects in towns including Skipton, Baildon and Denholme. ADNFCR-1581-ID-800027324-ADNFCR
